How do subscription discounts work?

Subscription discounts are applied to encourage customers to commit to recurring purchases.

How discounts are applied

• Discounts are set as part of your subscription plan
• They apply to the initial purchase and future recurring orders

Do subscription discounts combine with other discounts?

Shopify allows for discounts to either combine with one another or not. By default, the discounts function used by Express Subscriptions does not allow for discounts to combine.

If a customer applies an additional coupon at checkout:

• Shopify will automatically apply the discount that gives the greatest value to the customer

Example

• Subscription discount: 10%
• Coupon: 15%

At checkout:

• The 15% coupon will apply as that gives the customer the greatest value
• The subscription discount will not apply to the initial order

However:

• The subscription discount will still apply to future recurring orders
